Trump pushes Senate to pass Crypto Market Structure Bill

US President Donald Trump gathered crypto industry executives and federal regulators at the White House on Wednesday, using the event to press Senate lawmakers toward passing the CLARITY Act. Officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the New York Stock Exchange, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission attended alongside leadership from Coinbase, Kraken, and Robinhood.

Trump tied the bill’s fate to broader competitive concerns, saying the country intends to stay ahead globally, not only in Bitcoin and crypto, but in prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and related fields. He praised the industry figures in attendance for building what he called the future of commercial markets right in the United States.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss were among those present at the press conference. Trump called on Congress to approve what he described as “a fair version” of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, saying doing so would keep America ahead of China and clear the way for new waves of financial innovation.

The House passed the bill back in July 2025, but the Senate has sat on it for months since, with several lawmakers raising objections tied to tokenized equities, stablecoin reward structures, and questions about the Trump family’s financial ties to the crypto sector.

Following Trump’s remarks, Armstrong argued that passing CLARITY would give US crypto rules lasting stability, something durable enough to hold up “for decades and decades to come” regardless of who’s in office.

Trump used part of the meeting to share an unrelated update as well, noting that Bo Hines, working through Selig, is helping bring the exchange Hyperliquid into the US market. Hyperliquid specialises in perpetual futures tied to commodities such as oil and gold.

Meanwhile, Senator Ruben Gallego, speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, pushed back on the president’s comments regarding the bill’s ethics provisions.

“I think, unfortunately, what the president means is fair to him,” Gallego said. He went on to argue that Congress, not the president, holds the authority to determine the bill’s regulatory scope, adding that “the president doesn’t just get to decide what level of regulation he gets.”
